In June 2017, my wife and I visited New York City to celebrate our 40th birthdays. On one of the mornings there we walked from our hotel down Lexington Avenue and into Central Park. After grabbing a bite to eat we decided to explore a little more, strolling from one famous site to another: a movie set here, an iconic scene there! And then we stumbled upon Bethesda Terrace.. and it was seemingly bathed in the most beautiful music. As we came down the terrace steps we realised that there was a live group performing just inside: The Peace Industry Music Group. Among the songs they performed that afternoon was this one – You Raise Me Up.
Their performance was just stunning, and a highlight of our entire trip to NYC. So, when we returned home I was determined to add this song to our repertoire back at Carleton Ladies Choir. We’ve now performed it at our summer concert (watch this space for a video of our rendition), and some of us from the choir shall also be singing it tomorrow afternoon as part of Dave Woodhead’s funeral at St Mary’s church in Carleton.
