A bit of good news: I’ve found a really good online conferencing tool that will be perfect for conducting piano, guitar and music theory lessons via video link. It’s free for students to use, requires no additional software to be downloaded to PC / laptops (and only a little app for android and apple devices), and so allows musicians to continue with learning their instruments uninterrupted and safe from the risk of picking up the dreaded Corona virus!
So, how does it work? Well, Zoom is the choice of software for many large corporations because it allows them to host meetings of up to 90 people at a time, and incorporates all the tools required for these types of events, such as screen sharing, white board etc etc.
My students lessons will continue to be 1-2-1, with the only difference that we’re behind a screen instead of sitting in the same room. Zoom should allow us not only to see and hear one another clearly, but also to play together.
If you would like to resume your lessons while the country is encouraged to stay home, just drop me a line and we’ll get a new session booked in. When I book your lesson through Zoom you will receive an email notification from Google Calendar just as you did before. The email in this case, though, contains a link for you to click. This allows you to join your lesson at the appropriate time, or puts you in a waiting room until I am able to log in.
Because my son’s school is now closed for the foreseeable future, I need to balance the home delivery of his education with the delivery of online lessons to my students. As a result, the time slots available for people to have lessons in the coming weeks will be limited, so make sure you book yours early. I am planning to provide online lessons in the following time slots:
