Robin Oxborough: ‘Naughty’ from Mathilda
This musical version of Roald Dahl’s story was written (brilliantly, in my opinion) by Tim Minchin. There are loads of fantastic songs, but this one has to be one of the cutest: a little person singing about how important it is to overcome your size and be ‘a little bit naughty’.
Here, my son performs the song in our living room. I put the original track on in earphones for him to sing along to (and overdubbed the piano accompaniment afterwards). He knew the words pretty well, but some of the timing is tricky in the verses so I told him about how to count the beats – this is why you see him counting on his fingers near the beginning of the song.
Hope you enjoy watching his performance: we certainly had a lot of fun making it.
